A 39-year-old man was arrested from Bengaluru for allegedly duping over 100 people on the pretext of providing jobs in the Indian Air Force by impersonating a flight lieutenant, police said on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Kamal Sharma, a resident of Bikas Bihar, they said.

A woman, a resident of Libaspur here, lodged a complaint stating that she had come across one Kamal Sharma through online mode who used to run an NGO called “We Eliminate Poverty Now”, police said. He travelled from one city to another and communicated with the victims over video calls to pretend that he was wealthy. He had told the women that he earned around ₹ 30 to 40 lakh per annum, the DCP said.

In reality, Khan is married and has a three-year-old daughter, father and a sister. However, he had told the women that his parents had died in a road accident, the officer said. A mobile phone, four SIM cards, the car, nine ATM cards and a wrist watch were recovered from his possession, police said.
