A FARMER was seriously injured after being attacked by a leopard in Amreli’s Bhaniya village in Gujarat’s Gir forest earlier on Monday.

This was the 12th similar incident which took place in Amreli district in around two weeks. In the previous attacks, as many as two children were killed.

The farmer who got injured in the incident was identified as 39-year-old Dhirabhai Vala. The incident took place at around 4:30 pm in the Bhaniya village in Khambha taluka.

“The farmer was asleep on a cot on his farm when a leopard attacked him. He sustained injuries in his head and face but eventually managed to scare away the carnivore,” Rajdeepsinh Jhala, deputy conservator of forests of the Gir (east) wildlife division told Indian Express.

Jhala also said that the farmer got severely injured in the incident but he was conscious when an ambulance came in response to a call. He also informed that the farmer was admitted to a hospital in Amreli and he was out of danger.

This is not the first time when such incidents have been reported in the Amreli district. This was the 12th incident of a leopard attacking people in the district in around two weeks.

In the previous incidents of leopard attacks, as many as two children lost their lives in Kajala village of Savarkundla taluka and in Katar village of Rajula talukas.
