First-time flyer arrested for smoking beedi on Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight

A 56-year-old man, who was aborad Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight, was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) for smoking beedi midair.

Upon landing at the airport, duty manager of the airlines filed a complaint with KIA police. He was charged with endangering the lives of fellow passengers.

The accused, who hails from Rajasthan’s Marwar region, was identified as Praveen Kumar. He boarded the flght in Ahmedabad and was found smoking in the toilet by the airlines crew members. Kumar was later sent to Bengaluru central jail where he reportedly revealed to the police that it was his first flight ever in life and he didn’t know about the rules.

“I regularly travel by train and smoke inside the toilet. Thinking I could do the same here, I decided to smoke a beedi,” the accused told police.
