High Drama unfolds in Karnataka Assembly

The monsoon session of the legislature began on Monday, and it will go down in the annals of Karnataka history as the first to be held without an opposition leader.

Since assembly election results were announced, BJP has been plagued with infighting, with members pointing fingers at each other over the party’s debacle in the polls. The bickering has been so fierce that the party has not been able to pick a legislature party leader, who would also function as the leader of the opposition.

With its main opposition in a mess, Congress has not lost an opportunity to rub it in. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a tweet, said, “For the first time since 1952, both in the state and in the country too, the session begins without the main opposition, in this case the BJP, announcing its legislature leader. This BJP is loud when it wins but crumbles and croaks when it loses (sic). ”
Former council chairman BL Shankar endorsed Ramesh’s views. “I have never heard of any session being held without the opposition leader, at least in Karnataka,” he said
