A government employee died in Kedarnath after he came within range of the rotor blades of a helicopter on Sunday. The fatal accident happened at a helipad in Kedarnath Dham.

The deceased is identified as Jitendra Kumar Saini and he was financial controller of the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority.

The mishap happened as Saini was attempting to take a selfie outside a helicopter and he came within range of the helicopter’s tail rotor blade.

ANI quoted the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rudraprayag, Visakha Ashok as saying that the deceased was an officer of a company operating helicopters in Kedarnath.

This incident happened a day after the Chardham Yatra began on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya in Uttarakhand.

Chardham Yatra started for Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham started on April 22.

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, flagged off the yatra on Saturday. The pilgrimage started from Yamunotri Dham.

Kedarnath will open for devotees on April 25 and Badrinath Dham on April 27.

The Uttarakhand Tourist Development Council claims that this year, more than 2.50 lakh pilgrims have signed up for the Char Dham Yatra.
